- Chapter 7:
- Known to many as the "Liquidation" or "Fresh Start". All property not protected by exemptions is subject to the trustee selling to pay creditors. Many times the debtor loses nothing in a Chapter 7 Bancruptcy. Please schedule an appointment with Ms. Austin to determine if this is the case for you.
- Chapter 13:
- Known as the "Debt Reorganization". You Make payments to a trustee for a period of 3 to 5 years
You will many times only need to appear one time in court. Ms. Austin will appear with you.

- Trustee:
- The attorney who represents the creditors you owe money to
- Exemptions:
- Allowances to protect certain types of property with certain limits
- Meeting of Creditors:
- A hearing held by the Trustee. You are required to attend this hearing. Ms Austin will appear with you. Creditors may appear to ask questions but often do not appear.
